About Us

Living Proud – LGBTIQA+SB Community Services of WA

Living Proud has provided support to the LGBTIQA+SB community in WA since 1974.

LGBTIQA+SB stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, Queer, Asexual, Sistergirl and Brotherboy. The plus sign represents other sexual orientations, gender identities, and expressions not specifically covered by the other letters. The terms Sistergirl and Brotherboy acknowledge the trans women and trans men within many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Each letter in the acronym represents a distinct community. Each community has its own unique culture and experiences. The acronym aims to be inclusive of a wide range of identities within the community. We acknowledge the diversity of people’s experiences of gender and sexuality.

Living Proud is the WA partner of QLife. QLife is the national LGBTIQ+ telephone and web chat peer-support and referral service. We also run health and wellbeing initiatives and community capacity building.

We offer a number of training options including our Opening Closets Mental Health training. We also offer other full or half day workplace trainings to improve accessibility for LGBTIQA+SB people.

On International Asexuality Day, we celebrate our asexual community across the diverse spectrum of identities! Asexuality (or "ace") is an umbrella term describing a sexual orientation characterized by experiencing little to no sexual attraction to others. It's a spectrum that includes identities like demisexual, greysexual and more. People identifying as asexual may still feel romantic attraction but not sexual attraction. Asexuality is often dismissed or misunderstood. At Living Proud, we recognise you and embrace you. You are valid. You are seen.

Today we celebrate our trans and gender diverse community! At a time of a worldwide increase in discrimination, transphobia and aggression the Australian Human Rights Commission launched their report - Equal Identities: A human rights review of the experiences of trans and gender diverse people in Australia March 2026. The report makes a number of recommendations and we encourage everyone to check it out. (https://humanrights.gov.au/resource-hub/by-resource-type/reports/lgbtqia/equal-identities) What else can you do today? Make a pledge at https://www.tdov.org.au/. What will your pledge be? Living Proud pledges to stand with the TGD community, advocate for better healthcare and equal rights under the law and to protect the TGD community. 🩵🩷🤍🩷🩵 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍⚧️#Transrightsarehumanrights🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍⚧️
