Giz Watson was Member of the Western Australian Legislative Council, North Metropolitan Region, 1997-2013. Giz Watson was a key advocate on behalf of GLCS to get Health Department funding of $30,000.
This funding was the first time a state government department had agreed to funding the core costs of an LGBTQIA+ community organisation that was not on the basis of HIV/AIDS or specific project based, time limited funding. It was a major recognition of our community’s existence and our broader health needs. It set the precedent for future core funding of the organisation.
