About Us

Living Proud – LGBTIQA+SB Community Services of WA

Living Proud has provided support to the LGBTIQA+SB community in WA since 1974.

LGBTIQA+SB stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, Queer, Asexual, Sistergirl and Brotherboy. The plus sign represents other sexual orientations, gender identities, and expressions not specifically covered by the other letters. The terms Sistergirl and Brotherboy acknowledge the trans women and trans men within many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Each letter in the acronym represents a distinct community. Each community has its own unique culture and experiences. The acronym aims to be inclusive of a wide range of identities within the community. We acknowledge the diversity of people’s experiences of gender and sexuality.

Living Proud is the WA partner of QLife. QLife is the national LGBTIQ+ telephone and web chat peer-support and referral service. We also run health and wellbeing initiatives and community capacity building.

We offer a number of training options including our Opening Closets Mental Health training. We also offer other full or half day workplace trainings to improve accessibility for LGBTIQA+SB people.

Last week we saw the end of 16 Days in WA 2025 – the annual awareness campaign against family, domestic, and sexual violence. This year the theme was “Play Your Part”. Living Proud attended events through this important time including the 35th Annual Silent March Against Domestic and Family Violence, hosted by the Centre for Women's Safety and Wellbeing. We hosted a stall to promote our new Pride in Respect - Specialist Support Service, which provides frontline support to LGBTIQA+SB people impacted by family and domestic violence. We also attended the Joondalup March and stalls showcasing services, resources and support networks. We ended the 16 Days with the Minister Stojkovski launching the Pride in Respect Campaign, a partnership between Living Proud, WAAC, TransFolk WA and GRAI shining a light on family, domestic and sexual violence in the LGBTIQA+SB community. We all need to play our part because we all deserve to be safe, be respected and live free from violence. The events of yesterday are devastating. This violence and hatred has no place in a country like Australia. This is not who we are as a society. No place for violence. No place for hatred. Ever. We proudly stand with the Jewish community who are suffering and who have lost. We all deserve to live safely.

STAY SAFE & SOUND @ PRIDEFEST PARADE The parade is one of the biggest highlights of PrideFEST, and we want everyone to have a fun, proud and safe night out. If you’re heading to the parade or the after-events, take a few simple steps to look after yourself and your friends. Check in with each other, stay aware of your surroundings, and keep an eye on how everyone’s feeling. Looking after yourself — and each other — helps make PrideFEST the best time for our whole community. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️✨
