About Pride in Respect: Specialist Support Service

We are not a crisis service. If you or someone you know needs urgent help, please contact ‘000’.

We acknowledge that for many LGBTIQA+SB people, contacting Police may be difficult. If you do contact Police, we recommend you:

  • Take notes of any incident as soon as you can after it has happened
  • Have a support person with you when you speak with Police
  • Record the name of who you spoke to and when you spoke to them

Pride in Respect (PiR): Specialist Support Service is a partnership with Ruah Community Services. We deliver frontline support to people experiencing family, domestic and sexual violence (FDSV). Our team are all members of the LGBTIQA+SB community who have specialist knowledge of FDSV. You can learn more about FDSV here.

Pride in Respect provides secondary consultation and co-case management to mainstream FDSV services to support their work with LGBTIQA+SB victim-survivors. We support these services to follow best practice standards and approaches.

What support can we provide?

Our service takes a holistic and person-centred approach to supporting service users. We help service users to reach their goals and improve safety and wellbeing. Services include:

  • Risk assessment
  • Safety planning
  • Advocacy
  • Resources and information
  • Referral pathways

What should I expect when I am referred, or refer myself to the Pride in Respect: Specialist Support Service?

Once you send us your referral, you should receive email confirmation that our team has received it. We will then review your referral and ensure it meets our eligibility criteria.

After this, our team will meet to decide on whether we are able to support the referral. You will be notified of this decision within 7 business days.
