Volunteer

Our services rely on volunteers. We are keen to hear from people up for the challenges and benefits that volunteering can bring.

Peer-based Volunteering

Peer-based volunteering is particularly important in LGBTIQ+ communities. Volunteering gives people the opportunity to support their communities. And allows LGBTIQ+ folks to receive support from people who have similar experiences.

Volunteering for LGBTIQ+ Peers & Allies

Allies are people who are not themselves part of the LGBTIQ+ community but actively support our community.  Living Proud welcomes allies as volunteers in our events, project and office volunteer roles

Why volunteer?

  • To support the LGBTIQ+ community
  • To take an active and satisfying role in making your community safe and healthy
  • To gain new skills and experiences
  • To challenge your existing views and be intellectually stimulated
  • To learn more about the wonderful diversity of human experiences
  • To benefit from training and professional development opportunities
  • To stay in touch with LGBTIQ+ community news and events

Volunteering Opportunities at Living Proud

QLIFE Peer Supporter

QLife is Australia’s first nationwide peer support and referral service for LGBTIQ+ people. QLife is led by LGBTIQ+ Health Australia in collaboration with state-based LGBTIQ+ organisations. All QLife volunteers work on site from our central Perth metro location.

Becoming a QLife Peer Supporter is an intensive process. It includes attending training over 10 weekly evening sessions. It also involves being supported on shift and ongoing training and development. We hold one annual volunteer intake a year. This occurs one evening a week from the beginning of each year.

Intake for 2024 is now closed, and our 2025 intake will begin November/December 2024.

To be eligible to be a QLife volunteer you must:

  • Be an LGBTIQ+ Peer
  • Be available weekday evenings
  • Have strong verbal communication skills
  • Be open-minded and willing to be challenged
  • Hold positive and contemporary attitudes towards sex, sexuality and gender diversity
  • Understand  that people’s problems cannot be ‘solved’ but we can offer options and support other’s decisions
  • Be willing to commit to ongoing training and supervision

We will then invite you to complete a full application for our next volunteer intake.
